Dr. Anthony Davis was born in Nassau on March 23, 1947, and is the eleventh of twelve children born to Ulysses and Hilda Davis. His early education was at St. Thomas More Primary School and St. Augustine's College High School. Upon completing his secondary education he attended the University of Toronto where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1968 and Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1972.
He returned to The Bahamas in 1972 and worked in the government service for two and a half years where he underwent further training in oral surgery under Professor Albert Antoni. Dr. Davis had a passion for flying and was the first dentist to be attached to the flying doctor service, and as part of that team provided dental services throughout the length and breadth of The Bahamas.
In 1975 Dr. Davis entered private practice as an associate of Dr. Norman Cove, who greatly assisted in fine tuning his professional skills. In late 1975 he started his own practice in the Star Plaza on Mackey Street, and is now in his 34th year of practicing dentistry. At the request of a group of devoted patients in Eleuthera, Dr. Davis established and operated a satellite clinic in Governor's Harbour for some thirteen years.
Dr. Davis has served as president of the BDA for seven years. In 1978 he chaired the committee to redraft the outdated Colonial Dental Act of 1915.
Dr. Davis has always had a keen interest in dentistry both locally and internationally, and has been a delegate for The Bahamas for most of the FDI conferences over the past 30 years. He is also on the board of directors of the Caribbean and Atlantic Regional Dental Association (CARDA). He served on the Dental Advisory Board, now the Bahamas Dental Council, for six years and served as its chairman for two years. In 1997 he was appointed registrar of The Bahamas Dental Council, a position he still holds.
In addition to serving on the Dental Council, Dr.Davis has also served on the Ministry of Education Scholarship Committee and on the boards of BEC and Bahamasair. Dr. Davis is married to the former Ella Mae Bastian and together they have four (4) children.
