The Bahamas Dental Association will be hosting its Annual Conference November
11-14, 2009 at the British Colonial Hilton Hotel, Nassau. The Theme of this years' conference is, " The Transformation of Dentistry.... Are You Prepared? ".
This year's conference is expected to be another educative and enlightening session.
The major sponsor for this event is Colgate which has supported the BDA in many of its previous conclaves as well as special projects. Participants from New Providence, The Family Islands as well as The Caribbean and North America are expected to be in attendance. A variety of pertinent topics will be presented by local and international speakers.
The Minister of Health, Honorable Dr. Hubert Minnis is expected to bring opening remarks and declare the conference open, at the Official Ceremony and reception to be held Wednesday November 11th, at 7:00pm, British Colonial Hilton Hotel.
Opening Keynote Lecturer for the conference is, Dr. Merceline Dahl-Regis, Chief Medical Officer, Commonwealth Of The Bahamas.
Highlights of this year's conference include a special luncheon to honor members of the profession who have served the community for 25 years or more; Recognition of Dr. Munir Rashad on his retirement from the government service and recognition of the 2009 COB scholarship recipient.
Every 2-3 years the association honors members of the profession who have served our communities for at least 25 years. In a special luncheon to be held on Friday 13th November, 2009 at 1:30 pm, the association will honor the following persons; General Practitioners; Dr. Veronica McIver, Dr. Emmanuel Francis and Dr. Melanie Halkitis of Nassau and Dr. Leatendore Percentie of Freeport. Mrs. Lagloria Ferguson, Dental Nurse and Ms. Clarisse Williams, Dental Assistant will also be honored for their contributions within the Public sector for over 25 years.
Special commendations and recognition will be extended to Dr. Munir Rashad, Oral Surgeon and former Consultant/ Head of Department of Dentistry within the Ministry of Health on his recent retirement from the Public Service.
The public is invited to attend the luncheon. Cost of tickets is $35.00 each and are available from Executives of The Bahamas Dental Association.
Dentists and Dental Auxiliaries are now required to have Continuing Dental Education credits as a part of their requirements for re-licensure by the Bahamas Dental Council.
The Bahamas Dental Association seeks to fulfill this need through the hosting of its annual conferences and regular monthly meetings. A total of 16.5 credit hours will be available for members.
Chairperson for this year's conference is Dr. Tanya Mortemore who is also the Association's Secretary. The President of the Association is Dr. S. Andre Rollins and Dr. Joyous Pickstock, Vice President and Treasurer.
